A celebration of LOCAL culture, curated and emceed by Geoff (“The Official Theme Song of the Vancouver/Whistler Olympic Games (The Dead Children Were Worth It!)") Berner. The Apocalympic Cabaret was see-ya-later-world cabaret that says, “Thanks everybody for coming, please take some of the debt when you go.” All the proceeds benefit Pivot Legal and folks who get arrested / dislocated / cleaned-up during the games.

Who will you see? A ton of great rabble-rousing local artists, including: Vancouver poet laureate Brad Cran, East Van songstress divas Veda Hille and Patsy Klein, accordion superstar Geoff Berner and the Squeezebox Circle Accordion Orchestra, the installation performance piece Sükok Vanoc, comedian and Vancouver Special author Charles Demers, Watermelon, musician Ford Pier, Georgia Straight cover-sluts Marcus Youssef and Adrienne Wong, and many more.

Local music superstar and all-round troublemaker Geoff Berner says, “We want to prove that us weirdo lefty radical types throw a better party, and it doesn't cost 10 billion dollars, either.” Neworld Theatre Artistic Producer Marcus Youssef adds, “If the provincial government claims it can’t afford to invest in hundreds of civil society organizations, but is more than happy to spend a billion dollars on Olympics security and free tickets for people with tons of cash, then please don’t tell us to shut up. ‘Cause we won’t.”

Our Partners in Crime:

Pivot Legal takes a strategic approach to social change, using the law to address the root causes that undermine the quality of life of those most on the margins. During the Olympics, Pivot is launching the Red Tent: Housing is a Right Campaign, operating a 24 hour legal hotline and providing free legal services to people who are affected by intensive law enforcement during the games.

The WISE Hall once said no to hosting a Jean Chretien fundraiser. Now they’re partnering on this … GO WISE!
