How far would you look for childcare? How far would you travel to earn enough to care of your own family? A multi-media event, Nanay uses transcripts of interviews with domestic workers, their children, nanny agents and employers to tabulate the human cost of Canada’s Live-In Caregiver Program.
Based in Vancouver, Urban Crawl’s vision focuses on producing artistic work that opens up spaces for physical and social dialogue. We are committed to an artistic practice that is socially engaged, enmeshed in the messy world of everyday life. We work to create art that crosses disciplinary boundaries, crisscrossing sites for aesthetic and political exploration. For the company, Nanay represents an opportunity to further the potential of testimonial theatre, and to put theatre to work on an issue of civic importance.
