Smile! You're on Camera

Sunday June 20th from 12-8pm at Main and 21st.

Neworld Theatre and Rough House join forces with the youth of Leave Out Violence (LOVE) BC to co-produce a multimedia performance at LOVE Out Loud as part of Car Free Day on Main Street.

A bricolage of interviews and personal stories gathered from LOVE youth, Smile! You’re On Camera is a cross-examination of surveillance, police harassment and gang violence as experienced by young people in their everyday lives.

Created by Rough House’s Candelario Andrade, Camille Gingras and LOVE participants, Amanda, Ashley, Ben, Chris, Colleen, Crystal, Daniel, Erica, Erika, Erin, Ivo, Johnny, Josh, Justin, Katrina, Kaity, Leslie, Lila, Makena, Maranda, Meghan, Michelle, Mike, Brianna, Samara, Senaqwila, Sofie, Solomon, TJ, Tommy and Tracei.

Rough House constructs playful and provocative multimedia performances that reflect the absurdities of contemporary culture and engage audiences through the humanity of live performance. Rough House’s debut production Tiny Apocalypse received 6 Jessie Richardson nominations. Tiny Apocalypse recently toured to the Belfry’s Spark Festival in Victoria and the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in Burnaby.

Leave Out Violence (LOVE) is an award winning, not-for-profit, grass roots youth organization that is an effective means of social change, providing hope, motivation and opportunity to thousands of young people.
